Young Man Sentenced to One Week in Jail After Assaulting Partner with Piece of Wood

A Korle-Gonno-based Ghanaian fisherman, Nii Baah Afful, has been sentenced to one week in prison with hard labour for assaulting the mother of his baby.

Afful, 29, was sentenced by the Gender-Based Violence Court, sitting at the Police Headquarters in Accra, on April 9, 2025, after pleading guilty to assaulting his partner.

He is to serve his sentence at the Nsawam Maximum Security Prison at Nsawam in the Eastern Region.

Baah Afful was arrested on March 22, 2025, after a video went viral showing him assaulting a woman with a baby.

In the viral video, Afful is seen holding a plank of wood while a woman, later identified as his partner, stood before him holding a baby, later identified as their child.

The woman in the video is heard taunting Baah, informing him that she has found a proper man to date and take care of her. She said her new man is better, handsomer, and far more well-to-do than Baah.

“I’m here to inform you I’ve found a new partner, so we can’t be together anymore,” the woman, who reportedly shares two children with Baah, said in the video, speaking in Ga. “My new man is more important than you, he’s more handsome than you, and he takes care of me more than you do,”

Baah is then seen attacking her with a wooden plank, which he was already holding, assaulting her as she held the baby with no regard for either of their safety.

The video sparked public outcry and calls for Baah’s arrest, which the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Unit effected on March 22. Baah was arraigned before court on the 24th and was remanded into custody. He reappeared on April 9th and was sentenced to one week in jail with hard labour.
