A Ghanaian man of God, Prophet Bernard ElBernard Nelson-Eshun, has waded into the debate triggered by Lighthouse Chapel’s Bishop Dag Heward-Mills about paying of church instrumentalists.

Dag Heward-Mills triggered wild online debates after saying that he will not pay instrumentalists in his church. According to the man of God, he can play all instruments himself and has trained many others to play them, therefore, he does not see the need to pay for the service.

In a video sighted by GhanaCelebrities.Com, Prophet ElBernard backed up Bishop Heward-Mills, arguing that the church is not the place for professionals to make money.

He said as a church member, if you have the talent to play instruments, you have to use it to serve God and the church. ElBernard added that if you want to make money, then you do it during your working hours outside the church.

“You came to church and you have a gift to use so help the church, use it,” Prophet Elbernard said. “If you believe that your gift is your career, apply for employment.”

ElBernard continued that other people work in the church using their talents without expecting payment, such as ushers. He said so long as you’re a church member, your skill must be used in furtherance of the church’s aims.

“You are a professional sound engineer and Sunday you have come to church. As you are sitting in church, what are you using that skll for? [If you want to be paid] go and look for job somewhere. But you are a member of the house, use the skill to help us,” he added.

The prophet also took aim at UTV for hosting a show where panellists took shots at

UTV panellists push back against Dag Heward-Mills

On the Saturday, April 19 episode of United Showbiz, panellists Arnold Asamoah Baidoo, Bullgod and others, took Bishop Heward-Mills to task over his comments on not paying instrumentalists.

Bullgod did not hold back, describing his position as ‘nonsense‘. He argued that the man of God makes money for being a preacher, so he should pay others who lend their talent to his ministry.

Entertainment pundit Baidoo also criticised the man of God, quoting scripture, he said the word of God supports the notion of paying those who work for the church.
