The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu, has announced the resolution of the case against Sammy Gyamfi after he was spotted in a video seemingly flaunting wealth, contravening the government’s anti-corruption directives.

In a press conference held on Wednesday, May 14, Kwakye-Ofosu, who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, said no action would be taken against Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Gold Board (Goldbod).

Addressing the nation, Kwakye-Ofosu said Sammy Gyamfi’s immediate apology following the incident, in which he was captured on tape gifting fetish priestess turned Evangelist, Nana Agradaa, numerous 100-dollar bills, which she claims only totals $800 – showed his contrition over his acts.

“You would recall that in the immediate aftermath of the emergence of the video, Mr Sammy Gyamfi promptly issued an apology in which he expressed regret over the matter,” Kwakye-Ofosu said.

Gyamfi also honoured an invitation from the Chief of Staff to the Presidency to discuss the saga during which he was admonished over his conduct.

According to Kwakye-Ofosu, one of the remedies available for appointees who flaunt the code of conduct is a public apology, which Gyamfi swiftly delivered, as well as the Chief of Staff’s caution; the Presidency decided to close the case on the matter and take no further action against Gyamfi.

“After the interaction with the Chief of Staff, the Chief of Staff cautioned him… the Presidency does not believe that any further actions ought to be taken beyond the apology and the caution,” Kwakye-Ofosu said.

He added that going forward, appointees of the Mahama administration would strive even harder to behave in a manner that meets the high expectations Ghanaians have of the government in regard to competence and rooting out the canker of corruption.

Sammy Gyamfi – Agradaa interaction

On Saturday, May 10, a video surfaced on social media showing the GoldBod CEO in an interaction with former fetish priestess turned ‘woman of God’, Evangelist Patricia Asiedu, formerly known as Nana Agradaa.

Gyamfi in the video was pestered for money by Agradaa, and he entered his car to gift her some dollar bills. Agradaa took the bills and snatched several more out of Gyamfi’s hand, with a person nearby recording the entire interaction.

The video sparked public outrage over the ostentatious display of wealth by Gyamfi,a few months after the NDC won power, decrying the opposition NPP’s alleged corrupt looting of public funds.
