NPP Communicator Owusu Bempah Defends Sammy Gyamfi – ‘There’s No Evidence He Has Stolen Any Money’

Top NPP politician Ernest Owusu Bempah jumped to the defence of Sammy Gyamfi after a video of him gifting Evangelist Mama Patricia, aka Agradaa, dollar bills, went viral.

Owusu Bempah became the first high-profile member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to side with Gyamfi, arguing that the video of him gifting Agradaa money did not show any wrongdoing.

A video of Gyamfi went viral over the weekend, showing him gifting Agradaa several hundred-dollar bills.

After the video hit social media, Gyamfi was slammed for displaying wealth in such a manner, which undermines the government’s fight against corruption.

The minority in Parliament said his actions were insensitive at a time Ghanaians were suffering, while others called for him to be fired from his position as Chairman of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).

Ernest Owusu Bempah disagreed with his party colleagues, noting that while he disagrees with Gyamfi on almost every issue, using the video to attack his integrity is not right.

Bempah said there are big men in the NPP who spend over 50 times what Gyamfi did on random girls and never get in the news, so Gyamfi’s act of kindness involving a few thousand dollars should not be used against him.

“There are big men in the NPP who give $50,000 to ladies behind the scenes. Stop talking about it (Gyamfi’s issue). We will not support it,” Bempah said.

He said the attacks on Gyamfi are ‘dead on arrival’ and called for NPP politicians to be honest in reacting to the matter.

Bempah said he has clashed multiple times with Gyamfi, but this issue is simply a non-starter.

“Nobody has the moral right to attack that young man. I fought with Sammy Gyamfi on UTV, almost coming to blows, but no one can use this particular matter to attack him. Do you have any evidence that he stole money? If you do, bring evidence and let the Special Prosecutor deal with him,” he said.

Bempah added that Sammy Gyamfi has worked hard and made his own money, so it should not be shocking that he can find some dollars to give to other people.
