NDC Wants John Mahama to Serve A Third Term But We Won’t Allow It – Okatakyie Afrifa

Controversial media personality cum political pundit Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah alleges the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) are planning to flout Ghana’s constitution by allowing President John Dramani Mahama to serve a third term.

Speaking on his online radio show, For the Records, Afrifa claimed the illegal move was the reason behind the NDC’s recent announcement of a raft of good news to make Ghanaians believe in the governance prowess of John Mahama.

According to him, the NDC’s trumpeting of the cedi’s recent appreciation against the dollar is in service to that agenda, but said they will not allow it to happen.

He opined that if President Mahama governs well for the next four years, Ghanaians will simply give him a ‘thank-you’ and send him away.

President John Dramani Mahama is serving his second, constitutionally mandated four-year term after his victory in the 2024 elections. Mahama was previously President between 2012 and 2017. After serving his current term, he is prohibited from seeking a third term by the constitution.

Dollar’s rise not linked to Mahama’s policies – Afrifa

In his angry rant on ‘For the Records’, Okatakyie Afrifa insisted that the rise of the cedi against the dollar has nothing to do with any policies instituted by the Mahama administration.

Afrifa argued that the government has only been in power for a few months, making it improbable that any policies they instituted has had a profound effect on the cedi.

Afrifa said the most likely explanation for the cedi’s rise is the U.S.-China trade war instituted by President Donald Trump, which has reduced demand for the dollar across the world and led to the dollar’s poor performance against other currencies.

“The dollar’s depreciation has nothing to do with Ghana,” Afrifa fired. “Donald Trump’s trade war with China which led to him placing massive tarrifs on China [is the reason]. Now very little trade is occurring with the dollar, so there is no demand on the dollar,”
