Kumawood movie director and producer, Jackson K Bentum has once again refuted claims that the Kumawood movie industry has ended, asking that Ghanaians stop making such statements.

Speaking in an interview with Graphic Showbiz monitored by Ghanacelebrities.com, the father of Yaa Jackson admitted that the Kumawood movie industry had dwindled, but insisted that it has not collapsed as many have said.

Comparing Kumawood to Nollywood and Bollywood, the veteran movie director stated that the initials have cinemas to premiere their movies after shooting, but the same cannot be said about Kumawood.

He noted that; Kumawood was in the spotlight some years back because of the selling of CDs, however, technology has made the selling of CDs useless, hence, the need to also adapt to the changes.

“Kumawood is not dead. It is just waiting for its moment in the spotlight again. When you look at the major film industries such as Bollywood and Hollywood, they have transitioned from physical media to dazzling theater premieres. Here in Ghana, we have also stopped selling CDs, and that is why people think the industry is dead”, the ace director said.

The Kumawood director expressed optimism in the success of Kumawood following the establishment of Cinemas across the country.

He went on to add that, the real issue is that we lack cinemas. If we had more people, people would realize the movie industry is still vibrant. The cinematic experiences that audiences worldwide cherish must also happen here”.

Meanwhile, Ghanaians including actors, actresses, directors and producers have insisted that Kumawood is dead, and nothing can bring it back again.

They attributed the mitigation of the industry to numerous factors, and to mention a few are the lack of suspense in the Kumawood movies, the poor quality of the movies, political interference as well as conflict, hatred, competition, and pride as a few.
