Ghanaian journalist, Saddick Adams, praised President John Dramani Mahama over a recent call for Africa to take control of its natural resources, urging him to immediately nationalise all of Ghana’s mineral and natural wealth.

Adams, popularly known as Sports Obama, said the time has come for Ghana to completely nationalise its resources, take charge and ensure majority of the wealth created remains in Ghana to benefit its people.

He was speaking on his morning show on Angel FM when he made the call.

Ghana’s President, John Mahama, recently made a call for African countries to take charge of their own resources while speaking at the Executive Leadership Retreat in Ada on Thursday, April 24, 2025.

According to him, Western powers, via corporations, have continued the colonisation of Africa by exploiting its natural resources via contracts that disproportionately benefit multinational companies.

He said it was time for Ghana to wrestle that control back.

“The time has come for Africa to unshamedly take advantage of the natural resource endowment that God has given us,” he said.

Mahama said previously, Africa did not have the human resources and equipment to mine, forcing us into the exploitative contracts, but that is now a thing of the past.

“Today, we’ve developed the core of human resources capable of also taking advantage of some of these resources,” Mahama added.

Adams, reacting to the President’s speech, called for him to go beyond that and completely nationalise all of Ghana’s resources to ensure more benefits come back to the Ghana people when their resources are exploited.

Saddick Adams bemoaned the fact that mining has been going on in Ghana for over a century, and most parts of the country remain criminally underdeveloped.

Meanwhile, Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie, also reacted to Mahama’s speech and expressed support for his sentiment.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Sarkodie shared the video and wrote: “The revolution will be televised,”
