Ghanaian songstress Efya Nokturnal slammed Mobile Telecommunications giant, MTN Ghana, after an attempted withdrawal of money from her mobile wallet by alleged fraudsters.

The celebrated vocalist, born Jane Afia Boafowaa Awindor, slammed the telco on her X (formerly Twitter) account after a suspicious mobile money prompt to authorise a payment appeared on her phone without her allowing cash out or initiating such a prompt.

Efya shared a screenshot of the attempted scam, which asked her to authorise a payment of 107.10 to ‘MOOLRE for Ghana Digital Society Service’. It asked her to enter her mobile money PIN for the transaction to be completed.

The singer shared the screenshot with the caption: “LIKE WHY @MTNGhana 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬”

Efya gave more details in another post, lamenting: “HOW IS IT THAT MTN FRAUDSTERS CAN SENT AN OTP!!!! LIKE WHAT !? HOW???
@MTNGhana ITS OUTRAGEOUS!!! YALL NEED BETTER SECURITY!! ITS GETTING OUT OF HAND !!”

The singer’s complaints sparked numerous sympathetic responses, as many Ghanaians admitted suffering from similar fraud attempts. Some even said their elderly parents/relatives had been scammed by this same method and joined Efya’s calls for MTN to increase their security.

Meanwhile, others called for Efya to sue the telco to ensure they do the right thing going forward, in light of many of their customers complaining about being the victims of such scams.

Woman Cries Over MTN MoMo FRAUD

Recent months have seen multiple complaints from users of the MTN network about being defrauded out of large sums of cash from their MoMo wallets.

In a recent case, a Ghanaian woman took to social media in tears to narrate how fraudsters withdrew Ghc 11,000 from her mobile money wallet, leaving her in dire financial straits.

According to her, she simply received a message of money being transferred from her account despite not allowing cash out or entering her PIN. She lambasted the network, asking, How is such a move possible?

The lady also said that despite contacting MTN, they had no proper help to give her, simply telling her to wait for 15 working days.

“Every day it’s fraud, fraud, fraud. MTN, please do something about it,” she cried.
