Ghanaian comic actor cum musician Michael Akwasi Afrane, popularly known as 39/40, shut down a pastor following a claim that late musician Dada KD died due to his (lack of) religious beliefs.
Speaking during an interview on Hello FM in Kumasi, Afrane, who is promoting a new single, spoke about the progression of his career and announced plans to travel abroad with his mentor, Dr Likee.
He expressed gratitude to God for giving him the Grace that allows him to travel so easily in and out of the country for professional reasons. He said travelling outside is not as difficult as people envision it to be.
“Once you have money, travelling outside is simply like going from Accra to Kumasi,” 39/40 said. “When God endows you with Grace, travelling abroad is simply like going to Suame roundabout. It’s nothing mysterious; it’s simply the Grace of God that allows us to travel abroad frequently.”
His comments sparked a reaction from a man of God seated beside him, who expressed happiness that he was giving thanks to God for his ability to travel. He then made a comment that someone else, Dada KD, claimed he did not believe in God and had subsequently died.

The pastor’s comments did not sit well with the skitmaker-turned-musician, who fired back that even the Pope recently died, noting that death has nothing to do with a person’s religious beliefs.
Ghanaian highlife legend Dada Kwakye Duah, popularly known as Dada KD, passed away on Friday, May 16th, 2025. He fell suddenly ill on the day, was rushed to the hospital, and was subsequently pronounced dead.
Following his passing, several interviews from his past in which he spoke against religion surfaced online, rattling many Ghanaians.
Dada KD said in those interviews that he does not believe in the existence of a creator and that Jesus Christ and the Bible were works of men used to deceive and control others.
